Overall, it was a great trip. Explorient was well organized and true to their word. The guides were knowledgable and accomodating. The tour included a private min-van driving from DaNang to Hanoi (15 hours) with the giude accompaning us all the way. The guide made the long hard trip very interresting. We got to see the country first hand, but would not recommend driving unless you overnight along the way and take time to enjoy the beaches.

Description: Dominated by the Red River basin and the sea, the fertile northeast is the cradle of Vietnamese civilization. The scenery of this area, not the history, politics or economics, is the major tourist draw card. In particular, the spectacular coastline of Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay and Catba Island offer some of nature, more bizarre and beautiful geologic displays. Add to that the Ba Be lakes, the mountains around Cao Bang, the region’s Montana inhabitants and its accessibility to China, and it’s not hard to see why Vietnam, northeast is a major magnet for visitors.

BRIEF ITINERARY:

Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau

ITINERARY:

Day 01: Arrival Hanoi (by air)

Arrival at Hanoi’s Noi Bai airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After refreshment, you will take a charming cyclo ride around the city. Hanoi, located at the confluence of the Red and Duong rivers, has come a long way from the stilt houses of the stone and bronze age dwellers of four and five thousand years ago. Between Chinese power struggles, peasant rebellions, invasions from warring Mongol, the French occupation and America bombing attacks, the city has undergone and continues to undergo tremendous growth and change. Today’s Hanoi, “the city inside a bend of the Red River,” is a blend of thousand – year – old temples, tube houses, neo – Parisian buildings, and new, modern hotels and office buildings. After ride, you will return to the hotel and prepare for welcome dinner at the Grill Fried Fish Restaurant – which has brought much fame to Doan Family. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 02: Hanoi – Lang Son (road)

Morning breakfast 3 hrs drive to Lang Son, stopover to visit But Thap Pagoda on the way. Lunch at a local restaurant en – route. On arrival Lang Son City, visit Nhi Thanh and Tam Thanh Caves, To Thi Rock, Fairy Pagoda and Dong Kinh market. Dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Lang Son.

Day 03: Lang Son – Cao Bang (road)

After breakfast, depart to Cao Bang town (4 hrs driver). Transfer to basic hotel for lunch. After lunch, drive 50 km to visit the former headquarters of the Viet Minh freedom fighters led by Ho Chi Minh in the 1940s. Enjoy beautiful landscape dotted with Tay and Nung tribal villages nearby. Return to Cao Bang for dinner. Overnight on basic hotel in Cao Bang.

Day 04: Cao Bang – Ba Be – Ra Market (road & boat)

After 4 hrs, drive to Ra Market in Thai Nguyen province. On arrival, transfer to basic hotel for lunch. Boat trip downstream the Nang river into Ba Be lake, exploring the National park by boat with stops to visit the limestone grottoes, fairy pond, Tay and Nung ethnic minority villagers. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of the unspoiled tropical jungle, emerald waters, Limestone Mountains and the tribal life style. Drive back to Ra market for dinner. Overnight in basic hotel in Ra market.

Day 05: Cho Ra – Thai Nguyen – Hanoi (road)

After simple breakfast, drive to Thai Nguyen city, lunch at a local restaurant before visit Museum of Ethnology to see its rich displays of the cultures of the various ethnic groups of Vietnam. After lunch at local restaurant, return to Hanoi with stop en – route for photos as you wish. Dinner and overnight in Hanoi.

Day 06: Hanoi – Halong Bay (road & boat)

A day trip to Halong Bay, listed as a world Heritage of outstanding natural beauty. The picturesque Halong Bay has more than 2,000 limestone islets rising from the clear emerald water, many of them containing beautiful grottoes. A 4 hours boat trip will visit one grotto, and then continue to explore more of these wonders of creation. Fresh seafood lunch will be served on boat. Late afternoon return to Hanoi, stopover at Hai Duong for traditional taste of Green bean cake. Rest of the day at leisure for shopping and exploring Hanoi. Dinner and overnight in Hanoi.

Day 07: Departure (by air)

Breakfast at hotel, free for shopping until time transfer to Noi Bai airport for departure.
